Better Blood Continuing Education Programme

The Effective Use of Blood Group has developed an internationally recognised blood transfusion education programme called the Better Blood Continuing Education Programme (BBTCEP).

It is suitable for all staff involved in the transfusion process and is available as self-directed learning, face to face teaching sessions and as an innovative e-learning programme at http://www.learnbloodtransfusion.org.uk/.

The course is organised over three levels:

Level 1

Safe Transfusion Practice is the first unit in the series. It is aimed at all staff groups involved in the administration of blood components.

Level 2

Blood Component Use covers the consitutents of blood components and summarises the indications for use, therapeutic risks and the management of adverse events.

Level 3

Appropriate Transfusion Practice is the final unit in the series. The unit consists of four scenarios dealing with the transfusion management of a patient.
