Better Blood Transfusion Team

The Better Blood Transfusion Programme (BBTP) was established in 2003 (NHS HDL 2003/19). In 2006 the Effective Use of Blood Group merged with BBTP to form Better Blood Transfusion (BBT).

BBT is a nationally run programme, managed and supported by a central programme team based in Edinburgh with 21 Transfusion Practitioners based within each of the 14 NHS Scotland (NHSS) Territorial Health Boards.

BBT maintain an expert and varied range of skills and knowledge, including clinical, research, data management and administrative experience.

BBT has core objectives which are achieved through a diverse and comprehensive work programme streamed into three main themes:
