Preliminary Survey of Current Blood Conservation Practice in Revision Hip Surgery

A two-phase collaborative project with the Scottish Orthopaedic Community. Phase 1 which commenced in July 2006 included a survey of BBTP Transfusion Practitioners, Orthopaedic Consultants and Anathestists. Phase 2 is an audit of blood conservation practice in revision hip surgery covering over 200 patients in 12 Scottish hospitals.

Use of Cell Salvage in Paediatric Spinal Surgery

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of cell salvage during paediatric spinal surgery at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh has reduced the rate of allogenic blood transfusion.

Use of Cell Salvage in Obstetrics: Scottish National Survey

The overall aim of the project was to establish how many of Scotland's maternity units use cell salvage and to identify any barriers its use. The survey will be published later in 2007.
